Job Description/Job Summary
• Provides professional nursing care to all types of critically ill patients.
• Admits and assess patient’s status on admission and thereafter.
• Manages patients with tracheostomy, endotracheal, nasotracheal,hemovac drains, chest tubes and others.
• Assists the physician, surgeon on special bedside procedures such as cast application, central venous and arterial catheter insertion/ removal, chest tube, peritoneal tapping, pleural aspiration, lumbar puncture.
• Carries out physician’s order intelligently , accurately and promptly.
• Sets up cardiac monitor machine, mechanical ventilator, infusion and syringe pumps.
• Assists in providing basic life support inside the ICU and within the hospital as part of Code blue team member
• Collects blood/specimen samples with aseptic technique as requested by the medical team for laboratory investigations.
• Administers Oxygen therapy by way of manual resuscitation bag, T-piece adapter, endotracheal and nasotracheal tube, tracheostomy tube/vent, O2 mask. CPAP/BIPAP machine, etc.
• Administers medication through central and peripheral lines by observing the seven rights of drug administration.
• Assists in any diagnostic procedure such as CT Scan, MRI, MRA, Fluoroscopy, X-rays, Ultrasound, Echocardiogram, ECG, Barium Swallow, Bronchoscopy, Endoscopy and Colonoscopy.
• Performs oral/nasopharyngeal and tracheal suctioning, nasogastric tube insertion, urethral catheter insertion and care, bladder irrigation, peripheral IV insertion, aseptic dressing, nasogastric/ gastrostomytube feedings, 12 lead ECG monitoring.
• Performs continious veno-venous hemodialysis ultrfiltration.
• Assess, plans, implements and evaluates nursing interventions and maintains timely documentation to ensure continuity of care.
• Admits and transfers patients to the ward/OR theater with proper endorsement and documentation.
• Receives and transfers patients to other hospital facilities for referral.
